Celebrate & Commemorate Pride with TTD
Through These Doors acknowledges and provides advocacy respectful of nuances in the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2019, at least 10% of the LGBTQIA+ survivors that TTD served experienced violence from a partner of a different gender.
Abuse in LGBTIA+ relationships is not confined to same-sex violence. Bisexual, pansexual, and transgender individuals can be in heterosexual relationships. Just because they are dating someone of a different gender doesn’t make their individual identities any less valid.
Advocating for LGBTQIA+ and racial justice creates a world in which healthy relationships are more likely to flourish. IPV is less likely to happen. Those experiencing it are more likely to reach out for help.
Bisexual, pansexual, and transgender individuals are subjected to societal erasure and invalidation. They’re judged as being not “man,” “woman,” or “queer” enough. Often, intimate partners will use these judgments against them.
To counteract harmful messages, say it with us:
- You are valid.
- You are enough.
- You deserve a healthy relationship.
- You are worthy of support.
Virtual Celebration
While many Pride-specific celebrations are happening virtually, all of the Black Lives Matter activism and protests happening can also be seen as a manifestation of Pride, both on social media and in the streets. Join us in celebrating PRIDE MONTH along with BLM by watching our virtual video on Facebook.
